Want straighter teeth as an adult? Read on to see how can Invisalign braces can help!
When the word brace or aligner is mentioned to the majority of adults, many instantly envision a child or teenager with large, metal braces affixed to the fronts of their teeth. And so, as a result of this image, when any dental professional mentions to an adult that they could benefit from wearing a brace or aligner, many adult patients say no before even hearing about the options.
While metal braces have been brilliant at straightening smiles across the world for many years, they are still far from the most popular dental treatment. Large, metal wires on your teeth are hardly desirable when you are trying to boost your confidence and so, many people who could benefit from a realignment refuse to undertake one.
Luckily, thanks to advances in dental procedures, there is no need to undertake a metal brace to treat minor misalignments. Indeed, there is now an array of adult orthodontic options available, that offer a more discrete and accelerated alternative.
When you come to Spa Dental, our dentist in Sydney will be able to advise you on which type of braces you are most likely to benefit from. Our team is able and proud to offer suitable patients the world-famous Invisalign aligner to straighten their teeth, providing a more comfortable and straightforward solution to that slightly misaligned smile. Perfect!
But does Invisalign actually work? And, without wires or tightening, how exactly can it straighten teeth?
How do invisible braces work?
Whereas traditional braces are made from metal wires and brackets designed to move your teeth, Invisalign uses a set of custom-fitted retainers to straighten or realign your teeth.
Our dentist in Sydney will be able to take a 3-D scan of your mouth and then using associated Invisalign computer software, show you how your teeth will move during the course of treatment.
You will need to change your retainers on average every 2 weeks and, while Invisalign is removable, you will need to wear them for up to 22 hours each day. Don’t worry, they are comfortable!
What are the advantages?
As mentioned, one of the key advantages that our dentist in Sydney hears about from Invisalign users is that they are discrete. No-one will notice you are wearing them unless you point them out, allowing you to complete the treatment without drawing unwanted stares.
Another benefit of this aligner is that it offers accelerated treatment times; traditional braces can take up to 2 years to move an adult set of teeth, but Invisalign can give you a gorgeous new smile in as little as 6 months! Another advantage is that this treatment is more comfortable than using traditional braces due in part to the custom-fitted retainers and also due to the smooth outer surface of the aligners; you can actually sleep with them in without fuss! Now that’s handy!
Long-term
Once you have completed your treatment with Invisalign, you will need to wear a retainer. This will be to prevent your teeth from moving back into their previous positions.
