When you have tried whitening your teeth using toothpaste to no avail or have a minor gap in between 2 teeth, it can seem frustrating. After all, no one wants to undertake wearing a brace or aligner for a small gap!

In recent years, as dental techniques have advanced, it has become easier for dental teams to correct minor misalignments, discolourations and even chips with the use of a versatile and cosmetic dental procedure; veneers.

Affixed to the front of the teeth, these thin coverings can correct everything, from problems with yellowing to issues with sensitivity and alignment, allowing you to have a smile with ultimate assurance in its healthy appearance.

When you come to our team at Spa Dental for porcelain veneers or any other cosmetic procedure, our dentist in Sydney will help to ensure that you are happy with the results. We have extensive experience in relation to all cosmetic dental care and will always aim to provide striking, versatile and long-lasting results.

Are you eager to learn more about porcelain laminates or veneers? Our dentist Sydney provides the following simplified guide.

What are they made from?

The veneers which our dentist Sydney uses are usually made from porcelain, but in other surgeries you may find teams that use a porcelain/composite mixture.

How are they attached?

Veneers are attached using an abrasive technique and some dental cement; no drills or needles required!

Our team will gently sand the front of the tooth/teeth where veneers are to be attached to create a roughened surface. Then, after the application of dental cement, the veneers are pressed on. This can be done in one sitting and will typically take up to an hour.

Restrictions

There are minimal restrictions on who can have veneers fitted, but there are lifestyle restrictions that can impact on their longevity.

For instance, it is advised to keep an eye out for gum disease, as this can cause the veneers to fall off. You will also have to refrain from smoking, as this can cause the gums to recede and promote the loosening of veneers.

Aftercare

When it comes to veneers, there isn’t a great deal that they need in relation to aftercare.

Treat them as you would your regular teeth (brush twice daily, floss or use interdental brushes) and there should be no issue.

Be aware that veneers are usually made from porcelain and, while it is common to have veneers placed on numerous teeth, this can cause issues with whitening; your natural teeth may look yellow in comparison, as porcelain is not as porous as enamel. To maintain a whiter smile with veneers, whitening procedures may be required.

Longevity

Provided that you maintain a good level of oral hygiene and visit our team a minimum of twice a year for check-ups, your new oral veneers should last up to and over 15 years.

Of course, if you have concerns that they are coming loose or in rare cases they actually fall off, our team can reattach them.
