Top reasons for choosing Invisalign
The typical thought process behind wanting your teeth straightened is probably because you want to improve your smile, and with that, your confidence.
However, an attractive appearance only tips the iceberg of what straightening aids can do to better your oral health.
At our dental clinic, Spa Dental Sydney, we offer several devices (including Invisalign) that can help you to attain straighter, and healthier teeth. In this article we’ll discuss Invisalign, its benefits, pitfalls, and how they compare to standard metal braces.
What is Invisalign?
We provide our Invisalign patients with clear aligners. However, unlike retainers which prevent newly straightened teeth from shifting, aligners realign your teeth, moving them into their desired position gradually. Every two weeks, we’ll supply you with a new set that’s slightly differently shaped from the last.
What are the stages of getting Invisalign at Spa Dental Sydney?
There are a few stages you’ll have to go through before you can start your treatment and pave your way to having teeth without irregularities.
Stage one is a consultation with one of our dentists. Your aims for treatment, as well as any concerns you might have, are discussed. At this stage, we’ll also ascertain whether you’re a viable candidate for Invisalign, based on your diagnosis. Unfortunately, not everyone is.
Stage two involves taking scans of your teeth using our 3D imaging technology called iTero. We snap images of your teeth in real-time using a digital wand. Unlike traditional methods, this approach is entirely non-invasive, precise, and requires no goopy moulds to gain impressions of your teeth. Custom-fabricated aligners are created and uniquely shaped to cover your teeth and gums using these impressions.
This advanced technology doesn’t just create aligners that fit perfectly, but can also show users how their teeth will look like after treatment, thus providing them with realistic expectations. At the same time, iTero also closely monitors the progress of treatment.
You’ll receive your aligners during stage three, with instructions on how to use them. To enhance their results, we strongly urge you to keep them in at all times, except for when you eat, brush your teeth or play contact sports. Make sure that you don’t skip your appointments – these are quick and should occur every six weeks.
Will my life change whilst undergoing treatment with Invisalign?
We get asked this question often, and our answer is “yes, but not that much.”
Of course, your mouth will take time to adjust to the straightening aid at first. Following that, you might experience some discomfort when changing your aligners.
However, for the most part, you won’t have to make drastic changes to your current lifestyle.
Unlike metal braces which are fixed, Invisalign plates can be detached to brush your teeth and floss them. This means you can still tuck into the occasional steak without damaging your braces, and your teeth-cleaning regime remains mostly unchanged.
And, because Invisalign bears an invisible appearance, you can wear the device at work without your colleagues knowing about them.
What are some pitfalls or inconveniences I might experience?
No orthodontic device is perfect. Invisalign at Spa Dental Sydney has the following drawbacks.
It has limitations on what orthodontic issues it can fix. Your problem might be too complicated or unique to fix with clear aligners.
Compliance can be an issue since the device is removable – it’s up to you to practise self-discipline.
All treatment carries risks. Individual consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the treatment is right for you.
