So, what are some of the most common myths out there that are related to Invisalign Sydney? Read on to find out!

Anyone can wear the aligners

Sadly no, not everyone is suitable for treatment with Invisalign Sydney.

In order for the aligners to work, you need to have a mild or moderate case of dental misalignment, usually confined to the front of your mouth. If your molar teeth are involved, or you have a protrusion or twisted tooth, then you may need to wear a fitted brace. Also, at the current time, there are no invisible aligners aimed at young children.

The process takes a long time

As the aligners don’t require tightening, surely it will take longer for them to work?

In actuality, no, it won’t! Clear aligners are designed for use on people who have mild to moderate cases of dental misalignment, so the treatment time is condensed into around 3 to 6 months for most people. However, depending on your clinical presentation, it may take slightly longer, so talk to our team for more guidance on your treatment guidelines.

They are more uncomfortable than traditional braces

It makes sense in theory; they don’t require tightening, so they must be more uncomfortable in the short term.

But, invisible aligners have been reported as being more comfortable by those who have worn both metal braces in the past and these aligners. As they do not pull your teeth into the new positions in the way metal braces do, they are likely to be more comfortable to wear as they move your teeth. So, great news!

They are expensive

It is an obvious misconception; clear aligners are newer, and therefore, they will be more expensive than standard metal options, won’t they?

In a word, no! The cost of braces is broken down into the length of wear, the number of adjustments and any secondary work that may need to be undertaken, such as fillings. But, as aligners do not need to be tightened, and they do not need as long to work as regular braces, they are more affordable than you may think. Our team at Spa Dental can also offer to finance suitable patients, so call us for more information today.

They don’t work

This is one of the most prevalent mistruths that you will see relating to invisible aligners. But it is usually linked to them being used on someone who isn’t suitable.

But of course, if you are suitable for them, then they will work. Indeed, invisible aligners work long term in over 99% of cases. However, you need to remember to adhere to the wearing guidelines each day to get the real benefit and you will be required to wear retainers.
