Invisalign FAQs answered
Do you have some questions about invisible aligners?
At Spa Dental, we have helped many patients realign their smiles using Invisalign Sydney and can happily answer any questions that you may have about this aligner technology.
Here we answer 5 common questions that we receive about Invisalign Sydney, so enjoy!
How do the aligners work?
Invisible aligners like Invisalign Sydney work by being custom-fitted to your teeth and thus, they are able to push your teeth incrementally into their desired positions with each aligner.
When you come for your intraoral scan, we will take an image of your teeth and will compare it to a representation of how you want your teeth to look. Through computer imaging, we will be able to predict how many aligners will be needed (and what shape they will need to be) to achieve the final result.
Then you simply wear the aligners in sequence and gradually your teeth will be straightened.
Is oral hygiene affected by clear aligners?
Not as much as you would think!
Clear aligners are removable and so, when you need to brush your teeth, you can simply take them out. This also applies to dental appointments!
It is important that when you remove your aligners to eat, before putting them back in, you brush your teeth. This will prevent plaque that is on the teeth from being pressed against the enamel, which can increase the chance of tooth decay and gum disease.
How long does the process take?
After you have had your intraoral scan done, there will be an initial period of between 2 to 6 weeks during which our team will send off the scan results to a dental laboratory to have the aligners created.
After this, the length of time you wear the aligners will range from between 3 to 6 months on average, but it will vary depending on the severity of the dental misalignment you have. This type of realignment also requires you to wear the aligners for around 22 hours per day. For a more accurate breakdown of how long it may take for clear aligners to straighten your teeth, please contact our team.
Is it expensive?
Treatment with invisible or clear aligners is not as expensive as many people fear it is.
The cost of treatment is made up of the number of appointments needed to achieve the final result, the length of the treatment and of course if you need to have any replacement aligners made due to loss or damage.
And as invisible aligners generally require a shorter treatment time overall, this makes them much more affordable.
But to help you spread the cost of the treatment, we can offer you financing options provided that you are suitable, helping you to spread the cost into monthly instalments.
Do the results last?
In a word, yes they do.
The results obtained from clear aligners are just as impressive as those achieved with regular or fitted braces and provided that you wear the retainers afterwards, they will last.
When the aligners come off, our team will provide you with a set of custom-fitted retainers, to help train your teeth to stay in their new positions. It is important that you wear these as regularly as we tell you to, as failure to do so can result in your teeth reverting back to their previous positions.
