Invisalign; a short guide from Spa Dental
If you went to high school, at least one person in your year group likely wore a traditional or fitted metal brace.
And it is also likely that they complained about it a fair bit! In recent years, the world of orthodontic care has changed and now there are more options available for people who wish to have their teeth straightened without the use of a fitted or metal brace.
At Spa Dental Sydney, our team can offer a wide range of orthodontic treatments designed to cater for individual needs, and we are proud to be able to offer our suitable patients Invisalign Sydney, which is one of the world’s most well-known aligners.
But like the proverbial new kid on the block, many people want to know more about this aligner. Here is a brief guide from our team about Invisalign Sydney, so you can put all the pieces about this treatment together. Enjoy!
What are invisible aligners?
Invisible aligners like Invisalign Sydney are made for your mouth.
They are made from clear plastic and using an intraoral scanner, our team takes an image of the inside of your mouth to better customise the aligner.
Unlike traditional braces, these aligners do not utilise tightening or adjusting in the same way. They gently push or coerce the teeth into the desired location and do not use a pulling motion to do so.
Typically, when you receive a set of aligners, there will be between 14 to 16 and you will have to wear them in a precise order to get the most benefits from them.
How they are made
Using computer technology, we then move your teeth into the desired end location and the aligners are printed using a 3D printer to match the steps dictated by the computer software.
How to use them
As mentioned earlier, when you receive your invisible aligners, you’ll have to wear them in a set order.
At first, when they are placed over your teeth, they will feel tight and over the coming 14 days, they will begin to loosen which signifies that you need to move on to the next aligner in the series. During this time, you will also need to send our team weekly selfies of your smile so we can assess if the aligners are working correctly. If they are not, we may either send you instructions via the associated app on your smartphone, or we will call you into the surgery to better assess the situation.
Each day, you need to wear the aligners for a minimum of 22 hours.
Maintenance
The maintenance of invisible aligners is not hard. They are easy to clean as you simply rinse them under a cold water tap and use a soft bristle toothbrush to remove any stubborn debris.
Be certain to keep them in the carry cases provided when you are not wearing them, as this will minimise damage and warping.
If you lose an aligner, then feel free to contact our team who can order you a replacement and do not move on to the next one in the series without a thumbs up from our team.
