How to spot a dental emergency from our dentist at Spa Dental
Have you noticed one of your teeth is sore or twinges when you drink hot tea? Is there an inflammation in your mouth that is preventing you from eating?
When it comes to our teeth, few people are aware of how best to spot a dental emergency at home and even fewer are aware of when their issues require same-day treatment from a dental team. Luckily, we can help with both!
At Spa Dental, we are exceedingly proud of our emergency dentist Sydney services and always aim to provide appointments to our emergency cases on the same day. Our team will take the time and the care to get you out of the discomfort you are in with your urgent issue and will work to ensure that the problem does not reoccur with top of the range dental care, to your great relief!
So, how do you spot a dental emergency? Here is a simple guide from our dentist Sydney.
Is there swelling?
Oral swelling is a common dental emergency and can point to anything from an abscess to an impacted tooth.
If you have recently developed swelling in the jaw or oral area, contact our emergency dentist Sydney for a same-day appointment.
Is the gum inflamed?
Gum inflammation is common if there is decay close to the gum line, and can also occur due to gum disease.
If you look in the mirror and see inflammation that looks red or blue in colour, you need to see our team promptly. Blue inflammation can indicate an abscess and red inflammation can point to gum issues or bacterial infections.
Is it sensitive?
Has one of your teeth suddenly started hurting when you drink tea or eat ice cream?
If it has, this can indicate cavities or decay, or may point to acid damage. Either way, if one of your teeth is hurting when it is stimulated by hot or cold foods and drinks, you need to book a trip to see our emergency team.
Is there visible damage?
By visible damage, we are talking about chips, cracks and decay.
Decay may look like a brown spot or speck on the enamel of the tooth; a crack may be a bit harder to spot and a chip may feel sharp when you run your tongue along it.
If there is damage, come and see our team; a composite filling can often fix cracks and chips and in the case of decay, we can provide you with a regular filling to ease the discomfort.
Is it loose or lost?
In this sense, we are talking about not only your teeth but restoratives as well, such as fillings and crowns.
If you are concerned that you have lost a filling or you can see that your crown is wobbling, you need to see our emergency team; delaying a visit with a wobbly tooth or restorative may lead to issues like infection and tooth loss, so book the appointment as soon as you spot it!
