How dental implants by your dentist in Sydney CBD can restore your smile

Losing a tooth may seem like a death knell for your smile, but thanks to dental implants that may not need to be the case. By using dental implants we are able to restore your smile if it becomes damaged through an accident or from general wear and tear as you get older.

Here’s how our team with your dentist in Sydney CBD can use dental implants to help save that smile.

What is a dental implant?

If you’re not familiar with this treatment, here’s a little background information to get you up to speed. At our practice your dentist in Sydney CBD uses dental implants to replace any cracked or damaged teeth you may have, or to fill in gaps that have appeared over time for other reasons where teeth have been lost.

The goal of the treatment is to provide a natural looking replacement to the tooth being removed, to help your smile retain that natural bright look.

How is it used?

Your dentist will fit your new prosthetic tooth onto a small titanium screw which has been inserted below your gum line and into your jawbone.  Over time the bone will have healed back around this new implant to provide a stable and sturdy platform for the new prosthetic tooth to be fixed to.

The new tooth itself is normally comprised of either porcelain or ceramic and is designed to look as natural as possible and to fit with your remaining teeth.

Does the fitting hurt?

A fairly common question that’s posed to us by our patients is whether a treatment will be painful or not. In the case of implants there may be some mild discomfort, as the procedure does involve some minor surgery, but our team will try to limit that as much as they can with a local anaesthetic.

If you’re still concerned about experiencing any pain you can also have a chat with your dentist about using a general anaesthetic and whether you’re a suitable candidate for it.

At Spa Dental Sydney CBD our team will take you through the implantation process with as minimal discomfort where possible, to provide you with a new, natural looking and lasting smile.

Tips for when you go home after your implant is fitted

After leaving our practice, your main responsibility will be to keep your new tooth clean. Luckily this is very easy to do as the implant is sturdy, just give it a light brushing at least twice a day as part of your normal oral healthcare routine.

Also try to avoid using mouthwash for a while as the chemicals can irritate your gums and if you’re using floss avoid pulling too hard against the new tooth as you may damage or dislodge it.

These are just a few interesting facts we have about our dental implants programme. If you would like to learn more about this treatment or if you want to schedule a consultation for your own implant then get in touch with our team at the practice.

All treatment carries risks. Individual consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the treatment is right for you.
