Did you know you can have Botox injections at the dentist? A basic guide by Spa Dental
Who says a trip to your dental surgery is all about your teeth?
While many people still envision a person with a drill and a facial mask when they hear the words ‘dental practice,’ more and more dental surgeries are now offering their patients treatments that were once only considered possible in a spa or cosmetic clinic.
Indeed, as dental training advances and becomes more focused on creating beautiful smiles for patients, many surgeries have now chosen to breathe new life into the faces of their patients too and can offer non-surgical cosmetic options.
As odd as it may seem going to your dental surgery for facial work, all dental professionals are trained to identify the muscle groups in the face and, with some special training, can apply injectable cosmetic treatments with ease.
At Spa Dental, our dentist in Sydney CBD is able to offer our patients a range of facial cosmetic options, with the most popular treatment, Botox, being readily available for any patient who wants to eradicate wrinkles to enhance their new smile.
But is this version of Botox any different than the type you would get in a cosmetic clinic? Read on to find out!
Initial consultation
When you decide to come to our dentist in Sydney CBD for your Botox treatment, we will invite you to an initial consultation to discuss if this cosmetic treatment is suitable for you.
This will provide you with an opportunity to ask our team any questions that you may have in relation to these injections and will allow our dentist in Sydney CBD to talk you through the procedure. Of course, this is also the perfect time to discuss the desired effect you want to achieve once the procedure is complete and will allow our team to ask you about your overall health too.
Injections
If you are suitable and all is well with your health, we will then book you in for your injections.
If you are concerned about discomfort, we can apply a local numbing gel to the site of the injection, but even without injections this should not be uncomfortable.
Our team will inject your face in pre-chosen areas with the Botox; each injection may last about 5-10 minutes and will require no bandaging or antiseptic cream to be applied.
Once completed, you can go about your day as normal, with no extensive aftercare or time missed from work
Aftercare
Once you go home after treatment, there are a few rules to follow to ensure that the Botox works and, of course, that you do not become injured.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after the injections have been performed and try to avoid rubbing/ massaging your face.
Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours and avoid lying down for the first 4 hours after your injections. Also, if you must take painkillers, avoid taking anti-inflammatory painkillers like ibuprofen, as this can cause the treated areas to become more bruised due to this medication’s effect on clotting.
