Considering professional teeth whitening at Spa Dental Sydney CBD? Here’s everything you need to know
The natural colour of adult teeth is not the brilliant white that you see in toothpaste advertisements, but more of a yellow or grey. The shade darkens over time, as the enamel on your teeth weakens, revealing the inner layer of dentin. On top of our teeth dulling, bad habits, such as smoking, and eating and drinking things that stain, can lead to marks and further discolouration.
Do you feel conscious about the appearance of your teeth? There are cosmetic treatments available to you that will enhance the way your pearly whites look. Professional teeth whitening is a procedure we offer that helps to lighten your teeth and removes unsightly stains.
So what does tooth whitening entail and is it suitable for everyone? Are there risks and how long do the effects last?
You asked and we, at Spa Dental Sydney CBD answered your questions. Learn everything you need to know before you get your teeth professionally whitened below.
What methods are used to whiten my teeth?
Our practice uses customised trays that are placed over your teeth comfortably. Contained within these trays is a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide, which reacts with your teeth. Hydrogen Peroxide is a bleach that, when activated by heat, releases oxygen molecules that lift and remove stains from the enamel of your teeth.
We also offer home whitening DIY kits with strict instructions on how to use them, which are useful if you prefer the comfort of your own home to our practice. These kits work similarly to our in-office procedure, only that less bleach is used, which means that results are more gradual. Place these trays in your mouth at night for a couple of hours over four weeks.
Once you have achieved the desired results, use products such as tooth whitening toothpaste to keep your teeth white, and try to avoid tea, coffee, red wine and other foods and drinks that stain.
Will I experience side-effects?
People’s experiences of teeth whitening vary because everyone has a unique set of teeth. Some individuals have more sensitive teeth than others and might experience heightened discomfort and gum irritation.
There is no way to know how your teeth will respond to the treatment, but there are products that can help ease your discomfort. Our dentists at Spa Dental Sydney CBD might recommend Ibuprofen, which you can use in conjunction with a desensitising toothpaste.
If you have suffered from gum diseases in the past, and have sensitive teeth, it is probably best to avoid whitening your teeth.
Is the treatment suitable for anyone?
Aside from gum disease, people who should not have their teeth whitened include pregnant women and children, who still have their milk teeth.
You should also know that the bleach will not change the colour of metal fillings or crowns. However, if you want your fake tooth to blend in with the rest of your brilliant smile, you can opt for white fillings, but please let us know of your preference before you undergo the procedure.
Unpacking a myth: whitening does not harm the enamel
Contrary to belief, the bleach used in the whitening procedure will not erode your teeth in the short term. If you are whitening your teeth at home, be sure to keep the tray in your mouth for the prescribed time and no longer.
Flaunt an enviable smile to the world with professional teeth whitening, administered by our skilled and qualified dentists at Spa Dental Sydney CBD.
