It is more common than you think; a person gets a buzz on their phone reminding them that it is time to attend a dental check-up and then, the butterflies start.

Even at the best of times, the average dental patient does not like getting into the chair and having their teeth examined. But if the thought of going for a dental check-up makes you have palpitations or even break out in a sweat, chances are you have a type of dental anxiety or even a phobia.

So, rather than avoid your dental appointment (which can lead to further issues) you will be glad to learn when looking for a dental team that almost every dental surgery is now equipped to handle even the most phobic of patients and can offer you a more compassionate approach.

And at Spa Dental, our dentist in Sydney loves to help anxious and phobic patients to feel more relaxed and in control. We see nothing funny about dental phobias and will work with you to help you overcome your anxieties and to change how you see dental care. What more could you want from a dental team?

But how does our dentist in Sydney help break down your anxieties? Read on to find out!

Communication

Like most things in life, communication is the key to success and when it comes to overcoming your phobia of dental care, it is no different.

Our dentist in Sydney will take the time to understand the root cause of your worries and will work with you to develop a trusting and professional relationship. We will also allow you to lead every dental session you have with us; simply tell us if you need a break and we will happily allow you a breather from the chair. Simple!

Music or TV

Do you need a distraction in the chair? Our team can provide you with a headset playing relaxing music, or why not bring your own? We also have television sets mounted to some of our surgery ceilings, so you can watch TV while we work on your teeth.

Oral sedation

If you want to feel a bit more relaxed during the entire process, we can offer you oral sedation in the form of tablets.

But before we can offer you this, you will need to undertake a medical review to ensure that the oral sedation we offer does not clash with any current medication you may be taking.

Sedation by inhalation

And of course, we can also offer you nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) if you want to relax during the process. This has the advantage of no downtime, so you can go back to your daily routine afterwards with limited or no side-effects.

Intravenous sedation

For a more removed experience in the dental chair, we can also offer intravenous sedation.

However, you will need to have a friend or family member to escort you home afterwards and you will need to refrain from operating heavy machinery for around 48 hours post-injection.
