A guide to clear braces
If you are an adult looking to have your teeth straightened, it is likely that during your online research you will have come across invisible aligners such as Invisalign.
This aligner has become exceedingly popular in the last few years with dental patients, due in part to the fact that it is not only visually discreet, but that it is easy to fit into adult life and allows the majority of people to slot the aligners in and take them out at will.
When you come to Spa Dental Sydney to discuss having your teeth straightened with our team, we will probably aim for you to use clear braces Sydney, as this option is cost-effective, faster and easier to use for the majority of our patients. And of course, it offers discretion that you simply wouldn’t get with a fitted metal brace.
But before you rush to book your appointment with our team, you will likely have some questions about Invisalign or clear braces Sydney and in this article, we intend to offer a very simplified guide to this orthodontic treatment.
Who is suitable for Invisalign?
You may initially think that you would not be suitable for clear braces Sydney, however as many as 97% of adult orthodontic patients are, provided that the misalignment is located at the front of the mouth and it’s not too complicated. There are Invisalign aligners designed for teenagers as well, but at present there is not one aimed at children.
Wearing the aligner
The wearing of the aligner is quite straightforward. The aligners come in a set of around 12 to 14 and need to be worn for 2 weeks at a time in the prescribed order. For the aligners to work, you will need to wear them for around 22 hours per day or as dictated by our dental team. You will also need to keep them clean which will prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
Keeping it clean
Having debris trapped on the aligners is not ideal, as for these aligners to work, they have to be pressed directly against the teeth. Debris pressed against the teeth for long periods can lead to cavities and gum disease. Luckily it is not hard to keep Invisalign aligners clean. You simply rinse them under a cold water tap, but do not put them in hot water, as this can cause them to warp.
Keeping in touch with our team
You will need to stay in touch with our team during the process and this can easily be done using the downloadable Invisalign app. You will need to use this to send our team photos of your smile at least once a week, as this will help us to assess if the aligner is working correctly or not.
Retainers and spare aligners
It is possible that during the realignment process you may lose an aligner. If this is the case, contact our team to have a replacement sent out and do not skip to the next aligner in the series. This may cause the misalignment to worsen.
