Have you heard of Invisalign aligners and want to know more?

Our team at Spa Dental knows all there is to know about these clear braces Sydney and can help determine if they are the most appropriate tool to realign your teeth and give you the smile you want. Great!

Still unsure about going ahead with clear braces Sydney? Here, our team offers a brief guide to Invisalign. Enjoy!

Fitting and initial consultation

Before you can begin using clear braces Sydney, you will need to attend a consultation with our team to determine if you are suitable or not.

Invisalign and other removable aligners are usually only suitable for mild to moderate cases of dental misalignment. So to determine suitability, our team will explore the issues to be treated and determine if they can be resolved using an invisible aligner.

If we deem you suitable, we will use a 3D scanner to take images of the inside of your mouth, mapping where your teeth are located. Using these scans, we will then use computer software to ‘move’ your teeth into their new position and shortly after, we will print your aligners using a 3D scanner.

When the aligners are sent back to our clinic, you pick them up, put them in and voila! You can start your Invisalign journey!

Daily use

Each day, you will need to wear your aligners for around 22 hours per day. If you take them out regularly or don’t adhere to this treatment time (or the one that our team gives you), your realignment process may take longer than initially planned. Or, more worryingly, your teeth may revert to their former positions.

Each aligner will typically be worn for about 14 days and they will need to be worn in order.

Cleaning

Cleaning of invisible aligners are fairly simple; just rinse them under a cold tap to remove debris.

Do not use hot water to remove stains or food debris, as this can cause the plastic in the aligners to warp out of shape, making the aligners useless.

Appointments

One of the best things about wearing invisible aligners is that they allow you flexibility with your schedule. You won’t need to come into our clinic every week to have them tightened or adjusted.

And as Invisalign comes with an app that is downloadable for smartphones, you can send our team photos of your smile so we can better assess if you need to attend an appointment. But, should we call you in for an appointment, you must come in as it will help us to prevent any issues that may occur with the realignment or your dental hygiene.

Retainers

Once your Invisalign aligners are off, our team will likely recommend wearing a retainer. This will be to prevent your teeth from moving back into their original positions and will support them while they become used to their new placements.

We will usually recommend that you wear your retainers from between 12-20 hours per day for the first 3-6 months after you have finished using Invisalign. After this period, you may only need to wear it at night but our team will decide based on your case following a check-up.
